From time to time, we provide other awards for students in qualified educational programs:
In spring 2019, we donated $500 to DAREarts First Roots program to help enrich educational programming for remote (fly-in) First Nations communities in Northern Ontario.
In fall 2019, CFUW Guelph created three special awards for students in financial need to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of CFUW National. These awards provide support for up to three years of full-time study in an accredited post-secondary program and were allocated as follows:
- One award is by way of a partnership with Indspire (http://indspire.ca/), a national organization that supports education for Indigenous students. Through a program that includes matching funds from the Federal Government, our donation will provide a bursary of $3000 annually for three years. We have designated this award for a female Indigenous student studying at any campus of Conestoga College.
- A second $3000 bursary will be paid out annually for three years to a Guelph student participant in the Teen Age Parent Program (TAPPS) at the Guelph YM/YWCA. The chosen student is a young parent who is working her way through the prerequisites for a B.ScN. program at Conestoga College. We are pleased to support this young woman and delighted to partner with our local YM/YWCA.
- We are donating a total of $1500 to Conestoga College’s Women in Skilled Trades, a program that provides entry into skilled construction trades for women. Recipients will receive $750 in the spring terms of 2020 and 2021.
